What is turmeric

Turmeric is a yellow spice powder made from the root of a plant in the ginger family. Sometimes it is also called Indian saffron or the golden spice. The plant is tall and grows mainly in Asia and Central America.Like galanga rootcand ginger, turmeric is a kind of root (rooted) and resembles the other 2 roots of use end except that its exterior color is orange.Fresh turmeric can be used in food dishes - but several also use it as a dye.In addition, it is sold as a dietary supplement.

You can buy turmeric in capsules, teas, powders, and extracts the list is long. The beauty industry has also seen its useful qualities and use it in many of their products. As mentioned, the root has many possibilities.

Where to find turmeric?

Turmeric powder is widely available and reasonably easy to get hold of. You will usually find it in a well-stocked supermarket.Fresh turmeric is a little harder to find, but it's worth going for. If your supermarket does not have it - then you can probably find it at your greengrocer or a local market with fresh products.Turmeric is not only used as the only ingredient - but you also find it in many spice mixes, such as in your curry powder, where it is almost always on the list of ingredients. You will also find it in Worcestershire sauce and often as a yellow mustard dye, relishes, and pickles.

How does turmeric taste?

The taste of turmeric is described as a bit bitter, a little peppery like mustard or horseradish, with a slight twist of ginger flavor. The smell is a little down to earth. It is used more often for coloring than for its taste. If you use it in a recipe then it does not matter much to the taste - but it is more the color of the food that does not get the golden color as desired.

  1. Use your favorite milk, a little vanilla extract, stevia sweetener (or sugar), turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon in a saucepan.
  2. Heat the ingredients over medium heat until you "feel" enough
  3. Remove the pan from the heat.If necessary, pour it into a blender - or use a hand blender until it foams.

  4. Pour espresso into a serving mug and put your blend into the coffee.

Turmeric is said to have anti-inflammatory qualities and is said to be good for pain relief when suffering from arthritis.

  • Alzheimer People suffering from Alzheimer's have a chronic inflammation, and turmeric seems to have natural anti-inflammatory effects. So, does turmeric help Alzheimer's? Sorry, there is no scientific evidence yet.
  • Good for headaches Ginger is known as a good thing to take when you suffer from headaches and therefore it is no surprise that turmeric is also recommended to help with headaches. However, there is no scientific evidence - but it has not been said that you cannot try to relieve your headache by taking either ginger or turmeric.

Although there is no scientific evidence in the scientific world about the health benefits of turmeric - I do not want to write off eating turmeric - as it may well help in some cases but there is just not enough scientific evidence for it. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and it has strong biological qualities. Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional Indian system of health treatment, recommends turmeric for a variety of health conditions.This includes chronic pain and inflammation.Western medicine has only now begun to study turmeric as a painkiller and healing agent.Therefore, turmeric may well have the properties described above.

The bright yellow color from turmeric comes from its active component curcumin. Studies have insinuate that curcumin should have protective effects against skin-damaging chemicals and environmental pollutants.

Curcumin protects your skin by fighting the free radicals and reducing inflammation.As I mentioned before, there is no scientific evidence for the following - as we in the western world have only now begun to explore the benefits of turmeric health & skincare benefits - while they have known it in thousands of years in the Ayurvedic medicin.

  • psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin and joint disease that has been associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Curcumin is believed to inhibit immune pathways responsible for psoriasis.
  • Scleroderma causes the immune system to attack otherwise healthy connective tissue, resulting in scarring. This scarring usually occurs under the skin and around the internal organs and blood vessels. Curcumin's positive effects on scarring are believed to help control the effects of scleroderma.
  • Vitiligo is a condition that causes skin depigmentation, resulting in white patches of skin. In some cases, curcumin can prevent oxidative stress in the epidermal skin cells responsible for producing melanin.
  • Acne is a common skin disease characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, and pustules. A skin cream that has curcumin can potentially be used to regulate skin sebum production, which can help people who have acne. You will find turmeric in many different types of skin care products.

Side effects of turmeric

While turmeric provides potential health benefits, however, there are some risks that are worth considering before consuming large quantities of turmeric.

Disrupt the stomach. The same things found in turmeric and which support your digestive health can be irritating when taken in large quantities.

Turmeric stimulates the stomach to produce more stomach acid.It can be a good thing for some people and a negative for other people.

Blood thinning. The cleansing qualities of turmeric can also lead to easier bleeding.The reason for this is unknown.One of the benefits of turmeric is that it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure - but it can have a negative effect on other cases. People who take blood-thinning medicines should therefore avoid turmeric in large quantities or completely stay away from it.
