Goji berries taste good and have a lot of benefits

Where does the little goji berry come from and what are the benefits? Goji bushes grow wild in the mountain valleys of the Himalayas in Tibet - but are grown in large style in China. Here, the berry has been used for millennia in traditional Chinese medicine. The berries taste sweet against a cross between cranberries and cherries.

Blackberries, blueberries, acai and goji berries. Berries in all shades taste amazing and give pure joy when we eat them. Best of all is that they are healthy and it provides a lot of benefits to eating them.

You can also make your own jars for your morning juice and make them personal.

Goji berries health benefits

Berries are superfoods and protect you from several diseases, such as cancer, Alzheimer's, urinary tract infections and chronic inflammation, and they help strengthen your heart and circulation. In addition to all these benefits, they also keep your skin and brain healthy.

What are goji berries benefits when we get older?

You can actually say that they act as a natural pro-aging / anti-aging agent. The rich content of vitamin c contained in the berry plays an important role in the formation of the fiber protein collagen, since one of the amino acids used in building your collagen, hydroxyproline can only be formed if the vitamin c is present and it is in the goji berry

The collagen keeps your skin as elastic as possible and helps your body replace the dead skin cells. As we get older, the skin cell's formation of collagen decreases and unfortunately this means that your skin starts to "hang" and the wrinkles start to appear - so that's why it is important, among other things, to get C vitamins.

More health benefits of goji berries

As mentioned goji berries have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for many years. The berry contains many antioxidants and has a high content of beta carotene, which is also found in carrots and which can give you a yellow/orange color if you eat too much. Keeping your intake at a reasonable level has the advantage of giving you skin a healthy look.

Another advantage of the goji berry is that the berry is rich in amino acids and has a high content of dietary fiber. Therefore, they are really good to eat when you need to balance your blood sugar levels in the body and at the same time they give a really good feeling of satiety. Therefore, you see many times that there are goji berries in the muesli bars you buy when you need something on the go.

Alternatives to the berry

Goji berries are an expensive berry and if your wallet doesn't fancy this price - then you can buy many other foods with the same nutritional content as this rather expensive berry. Alternatively, you can buy:

As I said, there are plenty of options and more than mentioned above. as I said, the most important thing we can teach ourselves is that we eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. If you are having difficulty getting the recommended amount of 600 grams of vegetables and fruits in-house every day - then it is a good idea to make your own juices. You can see lots of recipes here.

Note: It should be said that if you are taking prescription medication it is a good idea to talk to your doctor before you start eating goji berries - if you are in doubt then don´t eat them - as there are plenty of other alternatives to a healthy diet than goji berries

You shall avoid them in your diet if you:

  •  have low blood sugar
  •  taking blood thinners
  •  have low or high blood pressure
  •  breast-feeding or pregnant (may cause miscarriage)
  •  is allergic to the fruit

50 grams of gojiberries also make up 340% of your vitamin A intake. So it's probably a good idea to limit the portionso that you avoid vitamin A poisoning.

How to buy

The fresher your berries, the better the taste. If you have the opportunity, buy your berries either locally or at the greengrocer - or pick them yourself. If this is not possible then choose, if possible, organically grown berries, especially raspberries and strawberries (both rank high for pesticide residues in commercial samples)

How to store it

Once you have brought your berries home, do not wash them - moisture on the surface of berries encourages advice. Instead, discard the damaged or moldy berries, pat the others dry and store them in a clean, dry container. Berries quickly become worse, so eat them within 1 day or 2 days. Storage in the fridge will help them last longer, but berries taste best at room temperature. Rinse your berries before eating.

Tips for preparation

If you have extra berries then you can freeze them. Wash the berries, remove any leaf part on top and pat them dry. Spread the berries on a towel in a single layer and leave them to dry. Place the berries in a sealed plastic bag and freeze them for up to 6 months.

I have now given you a lot of goji berries benefits both in terms of health and beauty - but also said that you should be careful if you are taken any form of medicine.  I hope you will be able to benefit from this knowledge and explore this wonderful berry yourself.
