Dry skin what is the signs?

Dry skin what is the signs and how do we treat the skin if it is dry.
The first sign that your skin is dry is if it looks dull and lifeless. Why does it just do that? When the skin need moisture, it is often covered by a layer of dead skin cells. The light reflects these rough skin cells with all sorts of different directions and your skin do not appear smooth as a skin that has enough moisture usually do. Your skin may also have a tendency to be red and irritated. It can eventually lead to a "light" itching of the skin.

Why do your skin get dry?

Dry skin occurs due to the number of sebaceous glands in the skin and the ability to keep on moisture decreases, the older we get. The fat content of our epidermis is an important factor when we talk about the skin's ability to hold water and act as a barrier to our surroundings. There are a lot of factors that can lead us to suffer from a dry skin and some of the things we need to be aware of are:

  • Too much sun exposure. Remember to protect yourself with a sun block cream – the sun is the enemy number 1 of the skin. Especially seen with a proaging/anti age point of view.
  • You take too many hot showers – it can  wipe out your skin.
  • Unfortunately, our gene can also play a role when we speak dry skin.
  • Over-Exfoliating with products containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid – it can be poison when we talk a dry skin –See what you should avoid here
  • Age –dry skin becomes an increasing problem when we get older. Unfortunately, it has something to do with our hormonal changes in our body.

When we reach winter time – the humidity falls both inside and outdoors. The winter cold and the wind outside seem to be drying our skin and the same make the use of central heating inside. When we go in and out, we switch between a warm, dry climate and a cold climate, and that is not good for a dry skin.

How do you take care of your skin if it is dry?

Your skin like fat & moisturizing products – it almost says it. When you clean your skin, do it with oil or soft cleansing milk –do not use soap – as it may have a tends to wipe  your skin.

What to avoid when you have a dry skin?

Don´t use creams, skin tonic and cleansing products containing alcohol and fruit acid. No rule without exceptions. Fruit acid can be used in conjunction with a peeling – but not for daily use. Remember that. Be careful here

Protect also your body not only your face

Dry skin is caused by your skin's natural protective barrier being damaged by either wind, cold and the hot air during the summer. Your skin dries out and becomes rough and cracked. Therefore, it is not only the face that needs care. You can either use a rich and nourishing moisturizer or a delicious oil that helps build the protective lipid layer and prevents dehydration of the skin.

Cleansing Guide for a dry skin type

Morning

Clean your skin with either oil or water.  Then lubricate your skin with a moisture serum - that would give a good result - because you really need moisture to your skin. If you don't have

that option use instead a fatty moisturizer with a built-in sun factor of SPF 15-30. If your moisturizer does not contain a sun factor. Use afterwards a sun blocker cream with protection SPF 15-30

Middle of the day

Here you can once again give your skin a little bit of sun blocker cream. Your skin tends to suck the cream quickly – so it's good to moisturize the skin up to several times a day when you suffer from a dry skin type.

Evening

Clean the skin with milk or oil. Please remember that all makeup should be removed. You may want to use a night cream intended of your normal moisturizer for dry skin. If you do not own a night cream then uses the same moisturizer that you normally use. Then it's just going to bed.

Note: Your skin will benefit from a facial scrub 1 – 2 times a week. The advantage is that the skin becomes more receptive to all the good ingredients found in the products you use. So it is a win win situation.
