What is a combined skin type ?

Combined skin is a combination of two different skin types on your face. Your cheeks are normal to dry. The forehead, chin and nose are clogged and called the T - zone in daily speech. If you suffer from a combined skin, it is often shiny and tends to impurities, especially in the greasy T-zone - while the rest of your face is dry - so if you cannot exactly define your skin as oily or dry, your skin type is probably combined.

Now you're probably thinking - that can be a big challenge - since you have to care for 2 different skin types at once - a little to the dry and a little too greasy. No, it doesn't actually have to be such a big problem.

First, let's state that if you can recognize at least 50% of the characteristics below, then you most likely suffer from a classic combined skin:

  • The T zone is greasy with extended / enlarged pores
  • The rest of your face is normal to dry
  • You may be bothered with blackheads and impurities here and there
  • You may have spider veins

How do you deal with a combined skin type?

There are several things you can do to help your skin look good. One of the most important things is that you notice how your skin is feeling /doing. You should not use products that cause the skin to show irritation or redness - it will only hurt and not benefit your skin.

Stick to relatively mild care products because your skin needs to be soothed, it is important that you apply gentle creams and cleansing products so that your skin does not get unbalanced, thereby provoking an overproduction of sebum. The skin easily knows if you irritate it.

The Must-Have Product: A Clay Mask

Here’s an issue those with combination skin know all too well: it is difficult to find a deep cleansing agent that only helps target specific areas. Well, the search is over because you can absolutely do that with a clay mask.
We recommend a product that minimizes pores as well, to help out with the usually enlarged pores in your T-zone.

This mask has a combination of clay, turmeric and cranberry seeds and is used to nourish your skin with antioxidants to brighten a dull complexion.

The turmeric helps cleanse your skin of conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, wrinkles, and dark circles.

Turmeric and its anti-inflammatory properties effectively target pores, soothe various skin irritations, reduce scarring, help clear acne off the face. The addition of cranberry seeds adds a soft exfoliation to moisture the skin while softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Always a good idea to use an exfoliator if you have a combined skin type

Apply a peel 1-2 times a week. This avoids impurities and the greasy feel that you may have in the T zone. Just put the peeling on the t-zone - as this is where you have the problem. Remember, it is important that you do not use excessively sharp peels that provoke only your skin. The result you get from such a treatment is that the skin greases even more.

Apply a good face cream when the skin is combined

It is important that you apply a good cream to your face. Your skin needs the protection and moisture that a good cream brings. This can help regulate and remedy your sebum production so that you don't grease as much during the day.

The problem is that if your skin lacks moisture, then it begins to produce moisture itself - and unfortunately it can't quite figure out how much it should produce, so it often happens that it overproduces. This is seen by your T zone shining and greasing. Therefore, use a good cream that is suitable for your skin type.

What should you think about when take care of a combined skin type?

First, find out if you are using skincare products that aggravate some of the problems you might have. If your skin is dry - see if you use products that are too “harsh” - it may be your cleansing product that is crazy. As said, it is important to cleanse your skin - but do not dry out the skin. Remember that if you dry out the skin, the skin wants to produce more moisture and then it will start to produce more sebum and thereby the skin will start to grease. See the description above. Therefore, check if your products contain a high content of alcohol - as it tends to dry out the skin (alcohol denat.) - and that does a combined skin not like

Cleansing Guide for a combined skin type

Morning

Cleanse your skin with a gentle cleansing milk, it is optimal, easy to use and suitable for all skin types. Because your skin needs to be calm, it is important that you use a gentle facial cleanser so that the skin does not get into further imbalance, thereby provoking your sebum production. Then apply a greasy cream to the dry parts of the face and keep it away from the greasy parts T zone. Then lubricate your face with a sun blocher cream with SPF 15-30.

Evening

Cleanse your skin with the cleansing milk. Remember that all your makeup needs to be removed. Then lubricate the dry places - avoid the greasy places.

A few of the basic things to consider when dealing with a combined skin type are the following:

Note:

  • Cleanse your skin with mild care product
  • It is a good idea to use a peel 1-2 times a week to avoid impurities and the greasy feeling you may have in the T zone. Remember, now that you don't need too much peeling, it provokes the skin and you will get that greasy T-zone.
  • Use a good face cream. Your skin needs protection and the moisture it can get through using a cream. This can help regulate your skin's sebum production so you don't want to grease as much during the day. Observe the skin and care for it as needed and not just in the blind.
  • Use sun blocker cream - all skin types should keep this in mind

One last piece of advice: Don't fall for creams that promise to distribute moisture where the skin needs it, while keeping it away from greasy areas of skin. It can´t be done. You need to take control of your skin care yourself and use the  products  where you combined skin need it.
